Despite rising trade tensions, the S&P 500 Index managed to generate a 3.43% return for the second quarter and 2.65% return for the first half of 2018. The U. S. market has been a safe haven for investors, as the U. S. was the only major region to generate positive returns and outpaced non-U. S. equities by 3.6% in local currency terms and 6.1% in U.S. dollar terms in the first half of 2018.
